Reading Assistant ("the App") is an English reading and vocabulary learning app for iOS. This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed when you use the App and how it is handled.
Summary
- We do not require an account or collect your name, email, or phone number inside the App.
- Your reading library, progress, vocabulary, and settings are stored locally on your device.
- Some features send limited data over the internet to third-party services (see below).
- Premium purchases are processed by Apple; we do not receive your payment card details.
Information Stored on Your Device
The App stores the following data locally using Apple frameworks (SwiftData and local files):
- Library & reading progress — books you save, chapters read, and scroll position.
- Vocabulary — words you look up, save, and flashcard review history.
- Reading statistics — daily reading session records used for charts and streaks.
- Imported books — full texts downloaded from public-domain archives, saved in app storage.
- Preferences — font size, theme, language, and appearance settings.
- Caches — dictionary lookups and book cover images to improve performance.
You can delete this data at any time via Settings → Reset My Data in the App. Resetting does not cancel an active Apple subscription.
Network Services
When you use certain features, the App contacts external services. Only the minimum data needed for each feature is sent:
- Public-domain archives — to download book files you choose to import.
- Free Dictionary API (dictionaryapi.dev) — the English word you tap to look up.
- MyMemory Translation API — word and target language for translated definitions.
- Open Library — book title and author to fetch cover images.
- Apple App Store / StoreKit — to verify Premium subscription status and process purchases.
We do not operate these third-party services. Their use is subject to their own privacy policies.
Premium Subscriptions
Premium is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple processes payment and provides us with subscription status information needed to unlock Premium features. We do not store or have access to your payment credentials.
Analytics & Tracking
The App does not include third-party advertising SDKs or cross-app tracking. We do not sell your personal information.
Children's Privacy
The App is designed for language learners and may be used by teenagers and adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will assist with deletion of locally stored data on the device.
Data Retention
Local app data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App. Cached dictionary entries expire after 30 days. Imported books remain until you reset data or remove them.
Your Choices
- Disable network access — offline reading of bundled content remains available; online dictionary, translation, imports, and covers require internet.
- Reset all local data — Settings → Reset My Data.
- Manage subscriptions — Apple ID → Subscriptions, or the link in App Settings.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect changes. Continued use of the App after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
